My name is Viktoria and I have struggled with obesity all my life. I have already lost track of all the methods I have tried over the years to get rid of the extra weight. I tried different diets, searching the internet for the most ‘effective’ and ‘controlled’ ones. I consulted dieticians many times and regularly used the help of a personal trainer. However, the weight came off very slowly and with some diets, not at all.
Only once did I manage to get rid of 15 kilos with incredible willpower! But the excess weight always came back – very quickly and in double the amount. I cannot describe all the emotions I felt when I stepped on the scale and realised that with the extra kilos I had gained, all my efforts had gone to waste again…
One day a friend came to visit me and told me about her sister who had a gastric balloon inserted, which helped her get rid of excess weight. And I thought, maybe there is a solution for me too that would finally help me get rid of the extra weight. I booked a consultation at Health Clinic, which specialises in such surgeries. After consulting a doctor, I made perhaps one of the most important decisions of my life – to undergo mini-bypass surgery.

What did the whole process look like?
First, I spoke with a bariatric nurse, who explained how to eat properly, which vitamins to take and how to prepare before the surgery. And, of course, I gave blood for tests. Throughout this process, the Health Clinic staff were always very kind to me, showing concern for my condition and asking questions. Perhaps it was thanks to their attitude and Dr Rein Adamson’s calmness and authority that I did not feel particularly worried before such a big step.
I remember just before the surgery, Dr Adamson came to talk to me and asked how I was feeling and if I was worried. I did not feel worried at all, I felt great and I was determined to recover quickly after the surgery. After all, I am young and strong! And I really wanted to become an irresistible beauty a year after the operation!
The operation did not last long, after which I spent a few days in the hospital recovering. During this time I was monitored by nurses and Dr Adamson, who performed the surgery, to make sure that everything went as planned and that there were no complications. In the first few days, I was constipated, with a heavy feeling in my stomach, but I understood this was completely normal after surgery. I expected things to be harder, but I did not experience reflux (small intestine contents entering the stomach) or heartburn, which I had suffered from before the surgery. Out of habit, I ate quickly at first, which caused a bit of discomfort, but it passed.
I felt the results of the surgery right away. I simply could not eat much anymore and I did not want to. When I started losing weight, it motivated me even more. Losing weight became very easy. I only had to say no to an extra slice of cake and I did so with great satisfaction.
How was the weight loss?
In four weeks, I lost 12 kilos! “Excellent!” said the doctor at the check-up and asked if I was happy with the surgery. I replied sincerely that I was satisfied and had no regrets.
After three months, I could already brag to the doctor that I had lost 22 kg! There were no problems with skin elasticity, which can occur with rapid weight loss. Overall, I felt great, nothing hurt. However, during the check-up visit, the doctor warned me that my weight would decrease more slowly in the future, while still noting that the surgery had had a very good effect on me.
After eight months, I was already looking in the mirror with satisfaction at the new me, which I liked much more than before. It is a miracle, because I lost as much as 35 kg!
At the check-up visit, the doctor immediately noticed how much I had changed. He also said that he barely recognised me, even though he knew who was coming to the appointment. I continue to take vitamins and my intestines are working normally. My diet has changed, my tastes have changed: I no longer want sweets and I have almost given up sugar. I only drink milk with coffee, but I do not eat sweet dairy products at all. And I feel great. In addition, I am planning to do some exercise, as the doctor recommended (although at first he joked that everything was going well without exercise) because the result is even better with physical activity. I learned this from my own experience when I lost two kilograms in two weeks while swimming during my vacation.
When I stepped on the scale 12 months after the surgery, at first I could not even believe that I had managed to lose 42 kg in a year! Yes, imagine, FORTY-TWO KILOGRAMS! I had to change my entire wardrobe (for the third time) because my weight was constantly decreasing. This is a great excuse to buy myself new beautiful clothes!
How has your life changed today?
Now there are many new things in my life – I move more and I also made an Instagram account. Before, I did not have beautiful photos of myself, but now I have a lot of them and I gladly publish them. I feel happy because I can do whatever I want!
To say that I am satisfied with the result would be an understatement. Sometimes I ask myself why I did not do it sooner. But the most important thing is that I did it anyway, and the result exceeded all expectations. I won what is mine.
